HIKE DETAILS: A strange hike really. Things started out a little dour and overcast and the hike was becoming not quite a boring trudge but the nearest thing to it. Until .... the sun came out, the weather became amazing and the views cleared up. Walking from Tung Chung to Tai O with a few detours the last few kilometres and the ferry ride home were truly spectacular. Oh yeah!! |

HIKE DETAILS: Finally a nice(ish) day again. Met Shevaun and explored some overgrown trails around Ma On Shan Country Park. This included many steep and slippery mud paths, a bamboo grove with a plethora of spiders webs, old village rock paths covered in moss and finally a quick spint up Tung Yeung Shan just to get the legs moving again after all this rain!! |

HIKE DETAILS: Half easy, half hard. Myself, JY and Carsten started at San Uk Ka and followed the Wilson Trail to Lead Mine Pass (every path seems to lead there somehow). There then followed some lovely contour trails before a steep climb indicated the beginning of the hard second half which included overgrown paths and a steep, slippery descent ending in a very steep final section. Nice! |

HIKE DETAILS: After worrying it might rain the weather was overcast, atmospheric and just the right temperature. We started at Shing Mun Reservoir and followed some clear trails until democratically choosing to take the overgrown 'jungle trail' to a clear but lovely contour path. We kept up a pretty good pace and from here almost ran down to San Uk Ka to eat and relax. |

HIKE DETAILS: I met Hans-Peter and Claudia at Pak Tam Chung and we followed some lovely, slightly overgrown mud trails in the eerie mist up to Tai Cham Koi. We then followed a ridge trail before climbing Lo Tei Tun. Now things became decidedly more tehnical, overgrown and steep than we anticipated. After pushing through to Sai Wan we headed to Ha Tin and took a fun boat to Sai Kung. |

HIKE DETAILS: Lovely weather this Sunday and Casten and Hans-Peter were looking forward to our long hike in Sai Kung. We began with a relaxing walk over the Luk Wu Plateau before stopping for lunch after about 12km. Then we decided to climb Sharp Peak for dessert. Taking the long, technical route we enjoyed fantastic views of the Sai Kung peninsula before a relaxing boat trip to finish. |

HIKE DETAILS: A strange week in Hong Kong. Record pollution followed by a few days of perfect hiking weather. This hike involved rugged ascents and descents of hills. A steep path up Buffalo Hill closely followed bu Pyramid Hill and then onwards to Ma On Shan. After this there followed some technical, precarious trails followed by the final 1.5km steep, technical, tough decent. Ahhhhh. |

HIKE DETAILS: On the last sunny day before Chinese New Year we managed to squeeze in a fun hike climbing from Sha Tin to the Lutheran Church and then heading up to Needle Hill. The the paths became more slippery and technical before we had a flat interlude around Shing Mun Reservoir before once again following some overgrown, technical but really green trails to Tai Po. |

HIKE DETAILS: A slightly cold day but perfect hiking conditions - cool to walk and an atmospheric mist. I Met Steffen and headed to Shing Mun Reservoir. After a flat start we took some more technical and adventurous paths, all the time appreciating the truly beautiful mud trails in the area. After finishing at Fo Tan we visited our favourite pigeon restaurant, complete with Kingsway beer. |

HIKE DETAILS: First hike of the new year and we chose a goody. The weather was rubbish but we were in high spirits. Started at Luk Keng and then an overgrown climb to Tiu Tang Lung. This was followed by a long, slippery, technical descent. After a (very) short lunch at Lai Chi Wo we continued with ailing body but firm spirit, visiting So Lo Pun and Yung Shue Au on the rainy return to Luk Keng. |

HIKE DETAILS: A spontaneous hike starting at Bride's Pool and following a lovely trail to Sam A Tsuen where we stopped for a bit of tea and conversation. Then it was onwards to Lai Chi Wo where we explored the old village square and once again had a little rest before climbing and then heading down to Wu kau Tang to finish what was a very relaxing hike. |

HIKE DETAILS: Twas slightly dispiriting to see the clouds hanging heavily over the hills this morning but once we got going it was great. Already soaking wet after completing the overgrown climb of Kau To Shan we then climbed into the misty realms of Cloudy Hill. Descending to Shing Mun Reservoir we negotiated the incredibly slippery Tai Shing Stream and followed empty, beautiful trails home. |

HIKE DETAILS: In a mystical land of legends and dragons and piercing, needle like mountains three brave young heroes set out to wander (bravely) from Wong Nai Chung Gap to Repulse Bay. After relentlessly completing the climb of Violet Hill and accelerating along a contour trail the three heroes (Siegfried, Perseus and Odysseus) arrived at Repulse Bay and drank a beer. |

HIKE DETAILS: What do you get if you combine a lovely group of people with amazing weather? A Wong Nai Tau round trip - that's what. After a gentle climb we passed through Mui Tsz Lam and then followed a secretive village path up to the MacLehose Trail. We now followed the sunny trail for a short while before descending once again to Wong Nai Tau and rewarding ourselves - with tea. |

HIKE DETAILS: I met Carsten and Marcel and we began with a steep ascent of Wong Leng. This was followed by a ridge walk and then a steep descent to the Wilson Trail (can you spot a common theme here?). After this we went back for more ridge walking before deciding to test ourselves with the ultimate, overgrown, tricky ascent. We passed and rewarded ourselves with a beer! |

HIKE DETAILS: Some people seem to think it's too cold to be outside at the moment. Well, not at all. This is perfect hiking weather!! Climbed up to Ng Tung Chai falls to get to MacLehose Stage 4 and then the fun started. The descent down to Ta Tit Yan was, and still is, the most difficult descent in our '20 Highest Peaks' book. Slippery, overgrown, hard to find. Fun. |

HIKE DETAILS: The first hike of the Chinese New Year turned out to be a misty, atmospheric affair. We climbed from Chai Kek to the Ng Tung Chai falls cloaked in cloud. Following the ridge away from Tai Mo Shan we met a couple of (ersatz) Ox's. Pleased by this chance meeting we speeded up along the contour trails with only one thought on our hikers minds - coffee!! |

HIKE DETAILS: So what better way to recover from a new years eve hangover than with the first flyingbottle hike of the new year. Starting in Pak Tam Chung we headed straight for the eroded climb of Lui Ta Shek and the even more eroded descent. There then followed a series of steep, technical ups and downs until Mount Hallowes, from where we took a serene path to Hoi Ha. |

HIKE DETAILS: Met with Judi, Liz and Margie and walked from Shatin to Shing Mun and we followed some calm, green contour trails before climbing steeply up to MacLehose stage 8 and taking overgrown, slippery paths down to San Uk Ka in pouring rain - a fun ending!! Judi and Liz are leaving unfortunately, so all the best to these interpid Hong Kong hikers!! |

HIKE DETAILS: Met up with JY and Judi at Wong Nai Tau and we decided to improvise a route up a (sadly) recently burnt hillside which eventually led to Mui Tsz Lam. From here we followed a gorgeous path to Buffalo Hill before going through a bamboo grove and following an old village path back before yet another overgrown path back to Wong Nai Tau. |

HIKE DETAILS: A fun hike with the flyingbottle hikers. We began the hike from Fo Tan and were soon climbing our first overgrown path. A steep climb up Grassy Hill was followed by a smooth contour trail before a few undulations led us to the MacLehose Trail where we took another overgrown trail downhill. A fun day of hiking, conversation and scratched legs. |

HIKE DETAILS: Met the Monday Ladies hiking group on a Wednesday (hey, isn't life meant to be a little unpredictable?) and we followed a steep path over Luk Keng on to the ridge near Pat Sin Leng. We then took a slippery, technical path down to the Wilson Trail, passed lots of creaking bamboo and made it back to Luk Keng in extra fast time!! |
